Bloomberg The Trend Is Your Friend, Till It Isnt “The moral of this story is simple: The trend is your friend till the bend at the end. “Don’t be fooled by it. Sometimes the world really has shifted under your feet, but most of the time the risk is just hidden, and normality is waiting for the chance to reassert itself with a vengeance. Message to Power Retailers I think you need to re look at your solar consumer buy-back policies. I believe there is an opportunity for the Smart Retailer to turn things around, to create a win / win scenario for your shareholders and customers. The more roadblocks you put in front of your solar customers, the more solar they will want to install; its human nature and you can’t win long term, you must realise this. You can discourage it financially, politically and publically but never socially. IMHO, You have basically 2 choices: A or B. A: Continue down your current path, of “squeezing” solar customers, reducing buy-backs etc. and see what happens. Very soon the Trend won’t want to be your friend anymore. Opportunity lost. B: CEO’s consider your positions, realise that you are going to have to come up with a sustainable deal at some stage, (i.e. little pain now, or possibly big pain later). Rooftop solar is not going to go away (see Australian graph below) ; in fact the pool of disaffected customers is going to grow. So the high ground waits for the first company to meaningfully engage with customers, industry and shareholders and come back with a “plan” If you choose option B: Talk to SEANZ, Talk to your solar customers, have you ever engaged a group of them? Asked them about their motivations and experiences, polled non solar customers and asked them if they have considered solar? Talk to me if you want, I’m full of bright ideas (yeah right, you say) give me a private, off the record call, and I’ll give them to you, free, straight up. I’m interested in the end result only, not the road to get there. If any of my ideas are of interest, take them they are yours. I will never tell. Your company can be a “Solar Hero” or a “Solar Zero” - its your choice. You will never know unless you ask for ideas and solutions from a wide range of external sources. Don’t just listen to the Yes Men and Women you must employ; I think you are getting bad information. Basically, like we small-time business folk, sometimes you have to “think outside of the square”. As CEO’s you have to find the right balance, it’s your job. If you choose option A: Then it’s back to the “pain amplifier” again I’m afraid. Socially I mean. Fortunately you don’t seem to operate even remotely effectively in this area. Again Yes Men and Women are in your ear, step back and have a look at the big picture. Then choose option B: You don’t to want spend “Too Long In The Wasteland” https://youtube/watch?v=fWlyT7qYZoo bloombergview/articles/2014-08-05/the-trend-is-your-friend-till-it-isn-t Graph source.. reneweconomy.au/2014/rooftop-solar-now-2-of-australias-total-generation-15494
