Bluffton Police Department Hosts Its Inaugural “National Night Out” August 5th; Joining More Than 16,000 Communities Worldwide Celebrating The Same Night Bluffton Police Department’s officers and Bluffton Fire District’s firefighters are proud to host their inaugural National Night Out, Tuesday, August 5 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. This free event will be held at Bluffton’s Law Enforcement Center (101 Progressive Street/Buckwalter Place/Across the Field from Publix). Officers and firefighters are hosting this community event so Bluffton residents, business owners and guests can get to know each other better as they celebrate fun events and promote public safety. Bluffton will join more than 16,000 communities throughout the nation, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world August 5th to raise public-safety awareness, develop closer relationships with their local public safety officials, enhance community pride and strengthen police partnerships with residents and neighborhoods. While August 5th is Bluffton’s first National Night Out event, this is the 31st year that communities, along with the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), have been coordinating this nationwide effort. “The best way to serve and protect our town is to get to know each other better in a fun and informative environment,” Chief Joey Reynolds said. “This event is a perfect venue to start the new school year, meet our neighbors and assure our officers have a way to pro-actively reach people with crucial safety information about guns, child seats, bicycle safety and so forth. The more our community does pro-actively, the less we react to critical incidents.” Bluffton Officers will be grilling free hot dogs, local band “Sweet Grass Angels” will be performing and several exhibits will be available for your entertainment and information including: • Scheduled Landing of LIFENET Air Ambulance • School Resource Officer Meet and Greet • Tours of the Bluffton Police Department • Exhibit of the Bluffton Police Department Boat and Water Safety Equipment • Bicycle Safety Registration • Exhibit of Police Vehicles • Gun Safety Exhibit and Safety Locks • Home Safety Exhibit • Children I-D Kits • Bluffton Fire District Vehicle Exhibit • Child Safety Seat Installations and Inspections Officer Carissa Branson of the Neighborhood Services Unit said while an exciting landing of the LIFENET helicopter is scheduled, one of the main attractions of this event is the child seat safety inspections and installations. “Many parents aren’t aware if their child’s seat is correctly installed,” Branson said. “A quick fix can prevent tragic consequences and we will have two officers, certified in child seat safety and installation, available to inspect and install your child’s seat. This is a simple inspection which can make a life-saving difference.” In addition, the school resource officers for all Bluffton schools will be available to meet their students and their parents. “As summer winds down, this is a great way to get together with your neighbors, police officers and firefighters. The natural outcome of this event is we become better partners in safety with people and neighborhoods. That’s a benefit which no one can put a price tag,” Reynolds said.
