Blurred Lines vs Gotta Give It Up: So apparently having a baseline that uses a similar chord progression and some cowbell is grounds to sue someone for plagiarizing a song that has completely different lyrics and many other completely different instrumental elements. WTF? BRB, going to tell the family of Big Bill Broonzy to sue every single blues musician ever, and most rock bands between the years of 1920 and 1960, as well as countless other songs because they all use the same chord progression and there is someone singing along to the music, so its clearly plagiarized. Dont get me wrong, Blurred Lines isnt a great song, but as someone who has played music my entire life I have scratched my head wondering how on earth anyone could think its a rip off of Marvin Gayes song... they literally sound nothing alike other than some cowbell and a SIMILAR bassline.
