Bob Grenier tagged me on this and asked what I thought... Here is what I wrote - what do you think of such movements? Well, from an athletic point of view, it is pretty fkn impressive. The hip drive and speed and power to move 143kg (I live in metric!) is amazing. From a risk-reward point of view, obviously something that dynamic and slamming into forced knee flexion with momentum like that puts the posterior meniscus at increased risk of injury and your patellofemoral joint may not like you for it. Having said that, I dont think that risk is much different to that of a heavy clean... From a psychological point of view, achieving things like this can break through barriers that have been holding people back from achieving things...like a 100kg snatch a few years ago for crossfitters. Now seemingly average crossfitters can do that, who dont have any hope of getting to regionals whereas before, only a few could. Or 30 muscles unbroken - before, it was rare, now lots of people can do it. These sorts of feats help make other things possible. So long as people can appreciate what the risks are and what are the perceived benefits will be and will it be worth it, then go for it. As for me, I can barely do it safely without a bar...I dont need to do it to achieve my goals so for me, the risk of not being able to do other things is not worth it. He is young, strong and powerful, I am older, wiser, still getting stronger and still getting more powerful Hope that answers the question. What did you expect I would say?
