Bolt Action day at Empire. First game was my Fallschirmjager platoon vs Bobs Red Devils in Black. It started off badly for me with Bob rolling all 6s and my Marder was knocked out. It went downhill from there. Dont charge up through the center of the field with an enemy tank holding the center of their line. I lost about two squads worth of men under constant fire and only inflicted one or two casualties. The Green eagle crashed hard. The second game was pure defence for my Russian Veteran Guards platoon with a SU76 in support. Von Owens heavily armed Fallschirmjagers and STUG support gun had orders to attack and take three objectives I held. A bunker on the left, held by my Maxim team. A ruined two story house in the center held by my platoon commander and the sniper team, with the 1st SMG squad in the woodline to the front and a newly conscripted rifle squad also holding the center. Finally there was a ruined farm house on the right held by the 2nd SMG squad. When Von Owens STUG made its appearance, the conscript squad, armed with AT grenades and in the best Russian tradition, charged headlong up the field through wheat fields, open ground and withering fire from the STUG. BOOM! and Rattatttattat and 6 died in a hailstrom. But amazingly, the conscripts did not break or run or hug the ground in panic. They got into cover, continued to advance and forced the Stug to consider a strategic withdrawel. Von Owens heavily armed 1st squad then rushed over to confront the conscripts. They had two LMGs, assault rifles and panzerfaust galore. Immediately they came under fire from the sniper team in the 2nd floor of the center house. Eventually, loosing one of its LMG gunners to sniper fire. The conscript survivors, now 3 men, thought about a suicide charge into the open, but a cooler head prevailed and they pulled back to the wheat field hoping to draw the FSJR into the open for the Maxim to fire at. Von Owens 2nd squad and command team moved into position between a low hill and the far bunker on the right. My LMG gunner in the 2nd SMG squad, ruined hut, began a constant peppering of them until beginning to draw blood in last few rounds. The battle ended with the SU76 and Von Owens Stug in a duel in the center of the field. The SU hit the STUG twice but with no penetration. The Stug kept hammering away and finally hit the SU. Only the roll of a 1 would save it, and thats what Von Owen rolled. The FSJR could not achieve their objective. According to Von Owens After Action report another Strategic Withdrawel was the final solution. Der Fuhrer was not a happy man. It was a bad day for the Green Devils on both fronts.
