Boost your pension by £25 a week: Top-up lifeline for women and self-employed Pensioners are to be given the chance to boost their state pension by up to £25 a week. They will be allowed to make top-up payments which will increase their retirement income for the rest of their lives. The scheme, available to anyone who has already reached state pension age or will do so by April 2016, will be unveiled today by pensions minister Steve Webb. He expects it to be particularly attractive to women, who tend to live longer and so will get a better return on their contributions. It will also help the self-employed, who currently qualify for only the basic state pension. Under the plan, pensioners will be allowed to pay from as little as £900 to as much as £25,000 to top up their pension. By doing so they will increase their weekly state pension by around £1 for every £900 paid in. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2546381/Boost-pension-25-week-Top-lifeline-women-self-employed.html#ixzz2raS4azOL
