Brandilyn Carpenter tagged me in a 5 interesting/weird/cool things about me update. Unlike Brandilyn, I have zero humility and love talking about myself, so Ill just try to keep it short. 1. I went to college for 9.5 years... to get a BA. First I had no major, then I majored in Philosophy, then I majored in Music Theory, then I had some financial difficulty and had to drop out, then I got back in.... I finally graduated with a Music Theory major. 2. In high school, I taught myself to play piano. I picked it up very quickly and got good enough to play a couple songs at homecoming a year later. But Id learned so many bad habits with my fingering, I was never able to progress much beyond that, even with professional tutoring. 3. My favorite author is Robert A. Heinlein. As a teenager, I consciously adopted a lot of the ethics I saw in his novels. But he never managed to persuade me on Libertarianism. 4. I have an obsession with programmable robots. Every year for Christmas Erich gets me a new one. I can see seven just from where Im sitting at the moment, and there are at least two more in the next room. 5. The most devastating loss Ive experienced in my life to date was my dog, Lady. I adopted her from the shelter when I graduated college in the mid 90s and she saw me through some incredibly rough times. She caught pneumonia and died on 9/11 -- THE 9/11. While the rest of the world was freaking out about the attacks, I was falling to pieces over the loss of my baby. Im still heartbroken over it, thirteen years later.
