Breaking news: A Madisonville man is dead following a confrontation with Madisonville Police in which he was shot to death. MPD Chief Wade Williams said that while the circumstances of the man’s death were still being pieced together Saturday night, police were involved in a vehicle chase that ended at a Hall Street residence where the man brandished a firearm and was shot by an MPD officer. Williams said the man’s name would not be released until his family members had been notified. The chief said the man was involved in a traffic stop at the Dollar General Store on East Center Street. It was determined that his driver’s license had been suspended. A scuffle ensued and Williams said the man got back into his vehicle and hit an officer while pulling away. The chase was short, ending at 244 Hall St., where the man pulled out a weapon, Williams said. Mayor David Jackson said the man did not fire the gun. Williams confirmed that it was the dead man’s residence. The chief said that MPD was familiar with the “person,” but that he was stopped for a traffic violation. The officer involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy, Williams said, and will receive counseling.
