Breast implant capsule being opened to reveal a 20 year old breast implant. This is an encapsulated breast implant I removed from a patient who had implants placed 20 years ago. Over the years her implants became encapsulated. As the scar capsules became thicker, the implants assumed a spherical shape giving her breasts the look and feel of large tennis balls. Once the scar tissue is removed from around the implant, the implant is released and becomes soft and assumes its original shape. This patient elected not to have a new set of breast implants.
