Brian Bennett reviews – FOXCATCHER (96) Very Good – Numbers up system - 99 Excellent, 96 Very Good, 69 Good, 66 Mediocre Cast Channing Tatum as Mark Schultz Steve Carell as John du Pont Mark Ruffalo as David Schultz Anthony Michael Hall Sienna Miller as Nancy Schultz Vanessa Redgrave Director Bennett Miller Foxcatcher is a hidden gem, that Hollywood didn’t give the promotion and recognition it deserved. This true story about John du Pont’s life is remarkable. How did a very wealthy man, follow his dreams and then self-destruct and commit murder? This story is not easy to portray on screen and have the audience understand the world of wealth, wrestling, athletes and insanity. Yet, Bennett Miller did an excellent job. I can see why Miller won Best Director for this film at the Cannes Film Festival. Usually Steve Carell is portrayed as a comic in a film, but surprisingly, Steve acted in a new light, this time, not making the audience laugh or smile at all. Steve’s stoic face was constant through the film. We never knew what he was thinking. I did not know the John du Pont story and what the ending would be. Without spoiling to my readers, it was shocking and made me want to google search after the film and find out more about John du Pont. A successful film stays with you, opens your mind, takes you a step further. Foxcatcher has made me think about much. https://youtube/watch?v=8361stZ8n0w
