Brian Carber Wins URC First at New Egypt; Micek and Lyons Victorious while Eric Palmer wins second straight Championship New Egypt, NJ (Sept. 14, 2013) – Brian Carber of Pipersville, PA won his first ever Rislone URC Sprint Car Series event Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway. A four time winner in the 305 Sprints at NES over the past two years, including one this season, the young driver put it all together charging from his 9th starting spot to score the very popular win over Josh Weller. JR Berry grabbed the early lead in the event before Randy West charged by him on lap 3 and began to pull away. Berry held on to second valiantly for the first 10 laps, but soon found himself overwhelmed as three cars; Weller, Carber and Davie Franek, all challenged him for second. That trio raced by as they entered lapped traffic and soon were closing in on the leader. Lap 16 saw Weller and Carber side by side battling for second right on the back bumper of the leader West. As the crowd began to come to their feet leader West tangled with the lapped car of Keith Prutzman and spun as Carber and Weller barely missed them, bringing out the races lone caution. Weller inherited the lead and when the green reappeared he shot to the lead with carber wuickly pulling back alongside of him. Carber slid by him on lap 18 and then drove away in impressive fashion winning by half a straightaway at the finish. Weller came home second, chased by late charger Ryan Bohlke in third. Davie Franek posted his 4th consecutive top five finish at NES in his only 4 career starts finishing fourth and outside pole sitter Curt Michael rebounded back to complete the top five. In the FASTRAK Crate Sportsman 20 lap double point season finale, John Micek won his first Crate Sportsman feature of the season. Micek charged from 12th starting spot to the lead in the first 5 laps and controlled the race from that point on thru numerous cautions and two red flags. The win was Micek’s 6th career victory, his first in over two years and vaulted him from 11th place in points to sixth in the final tally. Pat Hires finished second followed by Chuck Steuer, Matt McAnally and this year’s Rookie champ Charlie “Chuckles” Stone. Defending champion Eric Palmer finished 8th en route to capturing his second straight division title. Mike Lyons won the 20 lap Sportsman feature. Mike Howardson finished second to Lyons, who posted his 19th win of his career at NES. Mike Butler came home third, with Johnny Cornell and Jim Housworth rounding out the top five.
