Bright sunshine this afternoon has help boost temperatures into the low 80s! So far, the highest has been 81 degrees, just after 3 PM - a new record!. The previously set record was 80 degrees back in 2011. Some strong winds have been occurring along the Foothills with sustained wind speeds near 15 mph and gusts to near 50 mph at times. Winds may be a bit breezy along the Front Range, but not nearly as gusty as out west. Tonight will be quiet and mostly clear. Lows will drop into the mid to upper 40s along the Front Range and Plains, and mid 20s to low 30s in the mountains and foothills. The late October heat wave will continue on Saturday as a warm, dry air mass continues to cover the entire Rocky Mountain region. Record-breaking highs are expected again for tomorrow as we are forecasting a high of 82. The previously set record was 80 degrees back in 2007. On Sunday, the hot spell will come to an end as a cold front pushes into Colorado from the northwest. Clouds will increase and scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon. Some snow may fall in the northern and central mountains above 10,000 feet, but it will not be heavy. Highs will drop back a little on Sunday as readings in Denver will be in the low to mid 70s, while the mountains stay in the mid 40s to low 50s. By Monday, highs will only be in the mid to upper 50s in Denver and across the eastern plains. In the mountains, Monday will be windy and chilly with temperatures in the 40s. Tuesday will start out cold across the state with lows in the teens and 20s in the mountains and around freezing on the plains. Highs on Tuesday will be in the mid 50s to low 60s at lower elevations and 40s tio near 50 degrees in the mountains. A weak storm system will sweep across Colorado Wednesday afternoon and early Thursday, bringing a slight chance for showers on the plains and light snow in the mountains. Looking ahead to Halloween, it appears that the weather will be cool, but dry for the trick or treaters!
