Brilliant colleagues: Im editing a general-audience book of essays - TopicsExpress

Brilliant colleagues: Im editing a general-audience book of essays about wildlife for a U.S. publisher. The author has capitalized bird names (Golden Eagle), in line with the dictates of the Audubon Society. The publisher generally uses Chicago Manual style, which argues for lowercasing all but the proper-noun parts of such names. The project editor has asked me to make a final ruling, so Im looking for resources (specific to book publishing for general audiences) on how to deal with this. Thanks for any help!
