Briscoe wins Northwest’s Grisham Excellence in Teaching award Posted on August 12, 2014 by LaJuan Tallo Northwest Mississippi Community College Nursing Simulation Specialist Pam Briscoe was presented the Sandy Grisham Excellence in Teaching Award at the college’s opening faculty meeting on Aug. 11. This award is given to an academic faculty member on the Senatobia campus in honor of Sandy Grisham, a retired instructor in the Social Sciences Division. The selection is made by the Academic Division Directors on the Senatobia campus. The award winner receives a check in the amount of $1000 from the Northwest Foundation, which represents earnings on the endowment established by faculty and staff. Ellen Williams, former dean of Nursing at Northwest, nominated Briscoe for the award. “Pam has developed our simulation program and it is one of the most respected in the state. She is a leader in the Mississippi Simulation Alliance and regularly hosts training here at Northwest for other nurse educators throughout the state. Pam brings technology to the classroom in a unique way- she brings the manikins into the classroom to teach about normal findings and abnormal signs and symptoms, plans the students’ simulation scenarios, takes care of all the manikins, troubleshoots the computers required to run them and keeps up with all routine maintenance,” Williams wrote. Briscoe received her associate degree in nursing from Northwest, and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from The University of Mississippi. She is a member of a state alliance for simulation through the Mississippi Office of Nursing Workforce. “If all Pam did was to deal with technical innovations, that would certainly not qualify her for this prestigious award. It is what she does with the students that qualifies her for this award. To put it simply, she cares and cares deeply, “ said Sybil Canon, vice president of development and special projects.
