Britain should build more homes, says Brussels boss Laszlo Andor BRITAIN should build extra houses and spend more on public services if EU immigration is a strain, a Brussels bureaucrat said yesterday. In comments branded “nonsense” by one Tory MP, controversial European Commissioner Laszlo Andor said: “Mobile EU workers (in the UK) usually pay more in tax and social security contributions than they receive in benefits.” The answer to problems, he added, “is to invest in new facilities, housing and services, not to turn away people”. Hungarian socialist Mr Andor, soon to step down as Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, posted his forthright article on the PoliticsHome website. He has been at the forefront of Brussels attacks on Britain’s attempts to exert more control over EU migrants’ access to jobs and benefits. But Tory MP Stewart Jackson said there was no evidence that “EU migration at the levels we have seen is uniformly good for the UK economy”. He added: “The commissioner is talking nonsense.” express.co.uk/news/uk/510349/Britain-should-build-more-homes-for-EU-immigration-says-Brussels-boss-Laszlo-Andor
