British Horse Feeds Red Dragon Festival of Endurance – 4th, 5th - TopicsExpress

British Horse Feeds Red Dragon Festival of Endurance – 4th, 5th and 6th October Another of our major long standing events is on the horizon. The closing date for the British Horse Feeds Red Dragon Festival of Endurance is creeping closer. In fact, if you’re going to post your entry, the postmark must be no later than this Monday, 16th September. Online entries close MIDDAY Friday, 20th September. The Ride website is up to date and bursting with information about classes, sponsors, tradestands (there are quite a few!), route maps, etc. The title sponsor this year is again British Horse Feeds, who are as usual being extremely generous. Plus a whole host of other sponsors to ensure that the successful riders are well rewarded for their efforts. If you haven’t heard already, there is a route change this year and the infamous ‘Lollipop’ has been changed. The 27km, 36km, 42km and 48km routes remain the same as last year. However, the closure of the bridge at Erwood has resulted in the introduction of a new vet gate at Painscastle and a replacement for the “lollipop” section over the Epynt with a new route over the Begwyn Hills (by kind permission of the National Trust). This affects all 62km and 82km classes, the official distances for which will now be 65km and 80km respectively. Crews will be pleased to hear that the new vet gate is adjacent to the Roast Ox Inn!! John Hudson, co-organiser, is very pleased with the new route. “The new route over the Begwyns is spectacular (if the weather is good) – with views over the Black Mountains and the Brecons. The grassy tracks on the Begwyn Hills are to die for really.” The event is hosting the KBIS British Riding Club Team Endurance Final, plus a total of 27 Classes on the Schedule over the three days. Everything from the title Red Dragon Class (160km over 2 days) to Pleasure Ride classes on every day of the event. There is also a Team competition and special combinations of classes for extra prizes. There is really too much to tell you about here. Have a look at the website. You can even buy souvenir embroidered clothing and order them in advance. The organisers would be pleased to hear from anyone who would be available to help on a day they are not riding. There will be a talk on Saturday evening from Katy Willings regarding her participation in the Mongol Derby, the world’s longest endurance race at 1,000 kms. This ride is one of many people’s favourites. There are some steep climbs and descents but the going on the top is superb, with magnificent views. The atmosphere at the venue is truly special, with everyone keen to make this end of season Ride one to remember. reddragon.endurancegb.co.uk/
