Brittany Maynard, a 29-year-old woman battling stage 4 brain - TopicsExpress

Brittany Maynard, a 29-year-old woman battling stage 4 brain cancer from San Francisco, plans to die two days after her husband’s birthday on Nov. 1 by assisted suicide. As part of her legacy, shes launched a nationwide campaign to bring death by dignity laws to more states. Currently, only 5 states have laws to help terminally ill patients die. California is not one of those states. So Brittany and her family moved to Portland where she met the criteria for Oregons Death with Dignity Act. I cant even tell you the amount of relief it provides me to know that I dont have to die the way its been described to me, that my brain tumor will take me on its own, the newlywed says in a video. No one can ever imagine exactly what Brittany or her family is going through, but her story brings up an important debate: Should terminally ill patients be allowed to die on their own terms?
