Brothers and Sisters. The historic rulings this past week by the Supreme Court are a wake up call for us to pay greater attention to the legislative process and judicial nominations. Clearly the ruling by the court on the VRA shows there is a need now more than ever for diversity in our courts. African Americans and people of color across the country cannot afford to be casual observers or mere bystanders to the legislative and judicial confirmation process. We MUST become civically engaged. We as citizens can do a lot by volunteering and joining the efforts of community based organizations such as your local chapter of the NAACP who can in turn provide congress with info and data IF NEEDED to show that racial discrimination at the polls is NOT a thing of the past but present.
