Brownhill Family History. I have now added information from the many certificates that I possess to the database that I compiled from copying birth, marriage and death entries from the FreeBMD, which covers the General Register Office for England and Wales. I do not know how many certificates I have, because I have not counted them, but they must be in the region of 200. Fortunately, I bought them in the 1960s. To do so today would cost something like £2000. 00! A large proportion of the certificates concern my own family, which is well documented, but a fair number relate to other Brownhill families. They include two or three from Scotland and two from Australia. My next task is to add in Scottish entries from the General Register Office indices for Scotland. Fortunately, I was in Edinburgh in 1962, when I attended the 6th International Congress for Heraldry and Genealogy, and I took the opportunity to copy the Brownhill indices whilst there. They started in 1855. My other task is to link the entries together, so that I can construct the family trees. There are nearly 11,000 separate entries. However, as previously mentioned two, three, four (and possibly five in some cases) can relate to one individual. I have already started to do this and from these 11.000 entries my computer counter tells me that the database now holds 6468 trees. However, most of these are single person trees, as yet unlinked. The three largest trees are the three branches of my own family, descending from my great-great-grandfather and his two brothers. One contains 94 individuals, the second 58 individuals, and the third 21 individuals. But this can change, and will in due time.
