Brussels, 21 January 2014 140121/05 S T A T E M E N T by the Spokesperson of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on the latest terrorist attack in Southern Beirut The spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, issued the following statement today: The High Representative strongly condemns todays bomb attack which once again targeted Beiruts southern suburbs. She extends her heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims. There can be no impunity for such senseless acts of terrorism. They must be swiftly investigate and those responsible must be held to account. The High Representative reiterates her support for the efforts promoting moderation and dialogue between Lebanese political forces. Disengagement and dissociation from the Syrian conflict need to continue to be among the key aims of these efforts. The EU will continue to support the strengthening of Lebanons institutions and the stability and security of the country.
