Burns High School Daily Announcements for 2013-14 3/10/14 Guidance If you plan to register for AP courses in 2014-15, you are required to attend a brief meeting for each subject area during Bulldog Block. At the meetings, teachers will discuss academic expectations, attendance, summer reading, and other summer work for courses in their content area. Due to the cancellation of school Friday, March 7, the English AP interest meeting will take place Friday, March 14 in Mrs. Heavners room during Bulldog Block. Also, any freshman interested in taking Advanced World Studies needs to attend this meeting. The ASVAB will be given at here at Burns on April 15th. Please come to the Career Center to sign up, and receive an information booklet. Registration for 2014-2015 has started. Please take this time seriously and make purposeful selections to ensure your success for next year. See a counselor or administrator with any questions. Completed registration forms are due to your first period teacher by Wednesday, March 12 (all courses, teacher signatures, your signature, parent signature, date). You will receive an appointment card in first period next week with the counselor/admin, day, and time of meeting. Report to his/her office. If you do not have internet access at home and need a copy of the registration guide, a limited quantity are available in guidance and the front office. Athletics Our baseball teams will play at home today against North Gaston. Good luck to them. Softball will play at home today as well. Cheerleading tryouts for the 2014-2015 seasons will be held March 31 - April 3 . Tryout information packets and forms can be picked up from Mrs. Ellis in room 106 or from Ms. Nichols in room 115. Please make sure to pick these up between classes or before or after school. Remember, all tryout candidates must have a current physical on file before the first day of tryouts. Forms are due back to Mrs. Ellis and Ms. Nichols no later than Friday, March 21. Clubs Anyone interested in being a part of the creative writing club, please meet in Ms. Parkers room - MU 4 Friday during Bulldog Block. Members of the Outdoor Adventure Club should meet in Ms. Kahn’s room, room 107, this Thursday during Bulldog Block. Any FFA Seniors that want a senior cord please bring $12 to Mr. McKee by March the 14th. Any FFA Member that is interested in going to White Lake this summer please see Mr. McKee. The totals for our Pennies for Pasta drive is quite depressing at this time. Our school has raised only $85.91! We have just over a week to raise at least what we raised last year, $2675! Please donate during your 3rd period. Remember this money goes towards the lymphoma leukemia society. Athletics JV baseball team won against Bandys with a score of 6-0. Bryson Clark received the win on the mound. Varsity won 15-2 and Cameron Fitch picked up the victory on the mound. Any student planning to play football next year will need to meet in the field house on Friday during Bulldog Block if you do have an assigned tutorial. If you have been assigned a tutorial you should not come to the field house on Friday. There will be a meet and greet with Coach Senseney, the new football coach, tonight in the gym at 7PM. Other If any senior wants a baby picture or a toddler picture in the yearbook needs to turn it in this week. Yearbook has a spread we are working on...please turn in so we can remember when! Yearbook also needs a few more selfies-these are pictures taken with your cell phone of yourself. Please turn these in by the end of the week-this is the final deadline! Students, please remember that food and drinks are not allowed in the media center. Lunch today will be taco cup w/ tortilla chips, taco salsa cup, corn, pinto beans and apple cobbler. 3/4/14 At this time all Juniors should be in their ACT testing site. Juniors will eat 5th lunch today. There will be NO bulldog block today. Students not testing will operate on the 1st semester regular schedule (non homeroom). Athletics The JV baseball team won on Friday 5-1 over East Gaston. Trevor Spurling led the team with 2 hits and also picked up the win on the mound. The varsity baseball team also won with a score of 15-2. Brandon Alexander hit a home-run and Caleb Burnham picked up the win on the mound. Congratulations to the following people on being accepted into the Alpha Theta Mathematics National Honor Society: Nathan Hodges, Aaron Buff, Sierra Fortenberry, Emily Blanton, Kaliah Howze and Tyler Helms. They will be honored and receive their certificates at the math club meeting that will take place today during bulldog block in room 119. If you are interested in helping with set building, lighting, or props for the spring musical, there will be a meeting today (Friday) during Bulldog Block in room 110, Ms. McGuire’s room. Students there is a new game on campus called Crack the Code, sponsored by the Communities in Schools Graduation Coach Program. This game is to help you prepare for the ACT and SAT test. In order to play, please see Mrs. Hord, the Graduation Coach in the Media Center. A drawing for prizes will be held at the end of each month for students who Crack the Code. Good Luck! Other Attention seniors, the senior graduation picture for the yearbook will be taken today (Friday) in the stadium during bulldog block. You will need to report to the stadium at the beginning of Bulldog Block. Mrs. Heavner, Mrs. Bumgardner, Mrs. Kamlade and Ms. Parker will be holding ACT Prep Sessions during bulldog block today (Friday). Any junior is welcome to attend these sessions. See ACT Prep signs posted in the halls if you need help finding a room number. Show some love for a family member or friend and buy a heart for hospice. Make it out in honor or memory of them and see it displayed in our school. Buy your hearts for hospice during lunch for only $1. But, buy now! They only sold until the end of February.
