Bury Me With My Books, Says OAU Student Who Committed s*****e Part-four law student of Obafemi Awolowo University, who committed s*****e, Dipo Ige, in a written statement before hanging himself asked his parents and friends to bury his books with him. Ige committed s*****e in his private hostel penultimate Saturday evening at Ashiefa, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife and was buried at his hometown in Iree, Osun State on Sunday. It will be recalled that Ige’s friend, Tehingbola Ayotola, had indicated that depression could be responsible for Ige’s death. Even when the major cause of his action remained a mystery to his colleagues and lecturers, Ige in the statement warned that his girlfriend should not be blamed for his death. It was gathered that Ige and his girlfriend had misunderstanding before his death but a source told our correspondent that it had been settled. Also, in the written statement obtained from the phone of one the eyewitnesses, Ige said his properties should be distributed to certain categories of people. Though, our correspondent could not see the statement visibly because it was snapped late at night, part of it read, “As I plan to end my life, please bury my books with me. My reason for this action is best known to me. Please don’t blame my girlfriend(name withheld). She knows nothing about this. Share my properties accordingly to…” Fresh facts, however, emerged that Ige sent a message to his mum notifying her of his sucidal mission but the message did not deliver until a hour after it was sent. A close friend to Ige, who pleaded anonymity narrated to OAU campus journalists, “That day at about 9pm, Ige sent a text message to his mum. He told her that ‘by the time you are reading this, I would have been dead’. Unfortunately, his mum’s phone wasn’t on as at the time he sent the text message. “When she eventually got the message at around 10 p.m, she immediately alerted his close friend, Bola Okiji, who is also his classmate, to go and check him at home. Unfortunately, Okiji was not around Ile-Ife, he was at Ilesha. Thereafter, the mum sent another lady, living close to him to check for him. “Getting to his house, Ige’s door was locked. She peeped through the door and saw Ige, who has already hung himself with the rope tied around his neck. She screamed, forcefully let herself in and her scream alerted the sleeping neighbours.” When contacted, Bola Okiji said. his friend did not hung himself because of academics love. He said Ige was brilliant student in second class upper grade before his death. Okiji also described Ige’s death as suprising and schocking, adding that his action remained a mystery to him. OAU Association of Campus Journalists in a post said it gathered that Ige had always questioned the existence of God. “He was a recluse, he keeps to himself, and he never talks to anyone. He always questioned the existence of God. He has a weird personality,” the association reported. “He has been nurturing such evil before now, as the rope he used had always been in his room, in fact he has been hanging it at his door post since Monday,” a lady living in Ige’s house told OAU ACJ.
