Busiest day ever! Gave a very interesting lesson to two girls - TopicsExpress

Busiest day ever! Gave a very interesting lesson to two girls after school. One was very new to Horsemanship philosophies and had fear issues associated with riding, gave me a great opportunity for growth! The ground work part was smooth sailing, the ridden gave me plenty to reflect on. Part of what I do with horses is allow them to have a voice. For me this means no gadgets, such as a nose band to tie the mouth closed. The young rider did not feel safe with this, flatly refused to ride at all. I am still licking and chewing over this incident! The other girl has been to a few of my clinics and it was excellent to see her strengthening her relationship with her pony and trying to help her develop more self-confidence. Got out to my guys at around 6.30 and managed to ride both Jewel and Jazzy, and muck out. Jewel was a champion, lateral work at walk and trot, plus lots of loose rein walking and trotting. Took Jazzy down the drive and worked her in a paddock. She was a bit overwhelmed with rabbits popping out, new horses all around her and Jewel being just out of eyes view. Did lots of cantering and bending and she settled down. Charlie is far better today, feeling VERY full of himself. Roll on the weekend, pretty sure he will be right by then. So lessons of the day for me, which you may take or leave **Take the time to get things right and magic happens- Jewel and I are on the up and up, no trigger points, relaxing into stretches easily, saddle fits, back in the halter and happy as larry! It means it takes me 10 minutes longer to get in the saddle, due to giving her a massage, warm up and stretches to begin with, but so worth it as she is so elastic and relaxed when I ride her. **Continue developing a strong sense of what I stand for with horses. At times this is easy to sway on, due to the opinions and wants of others. But I come back time and time again, to sticking with what I am doing, it works! **It is amazing how much you can get out of the day when you dont make excuses. I was going to blame the wind and not ride. So glad I didnt. When I got out in it, it was fine. Was going to pull pin on lesson due to rain, but the weather improved for us and much learning occurred for me! Any lessons you guys wants to share to help us out too?
