Business 338, Foundations of Innovation – Wednesdays at 4:30, Surrey Campus BUS 338 has been re-imagined and re-launched to give students a more engaging and hands-on experience in the process of innovation! This practically-oriented class will give you hands-on experience in early-stage entrepreneurship and innovation and introduce you to the critical elements of commercializing a new offering. We will address how to match innovative products to customer and market needs, create and identify new business opportunities and formulate a commercialization strategy. The main project, run over the course of the term, will be dedicated to applying the concepts discussed in class to real world new ventures in team projects. Student teams will work with real early stage ideas and/or entrepreneurs who are currently considering commercializing a new technology or product. The student teams will work on crafting a value proposition, identifying and evaluating potential customers and markets, developing their products, identifying competition and planning their commercialization strategy. The teams will also be matched with an industry mentor to provide industry specific knowledge and guidance and networking opportunities. Every student can benefit from entrepreneurial skills, and interdisciplinary teams are fundamental to successful innovation, so students from all faculties are encouraged to apply!
