Busy day. Eventful day. First was the Mens breakfast and devotion at Dresden First Baptist in which I shared that November is a month of Thanksgiving. On that day later this month we thank God for His grace, the blessings of the year, our rights as Citizens, our Country, our health, the bounty of our land and our families. Tuesday (Veterans Day) we thank the men and women who have fought and died to preserve those things of which we are grateful. I mentioned to them this morning that it came to my thoughts Thursday that 2014 is 70 years from the time when my 25 year old father lost both his legs to a land mine in the Battle of the Huertgen Forrest in Germany in WW II. He is the Veteran that first comes to my mind on Veterans Day, my hero. I honor him and others on Tuesday. Right after breakfast I joined several Weakley County Baptists in a day of service across the County -- giving of our time and energy to help others rake leaves. Later in the morning I had the privilege to sing the National Anthem at the Rolling Thunder Veterans Day Presentation at Martin. It is an incredibly moving, sober, thought provoking service honoring those who are serving and those who have served. Because of them we can proudly answer the question of the Anthem -- Oh say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave, oer the land of the free and the home of the brave? Yes it does!!! Later I took part in the Celebration of the Incredible life of Ms. Doris Davis Nanney -- singing there with the Quartet, rejoicing and weeping with that great family. TODAY I WAS BLESSED!!! Today I was reminded over and over of why I love life, the people of Weakley County, my Church, my Christian brothers and sisters, my family, my friends, music, life in a small town and rural County, this Country and God. Take time this month to thank God and to remember and thank our Veterans.
