Busy night for Hamilton Police. Here are some of the incidents we responded to over last 24 hours: Robbery (Commercial): On June 13th, 2013, at approximately 10:05 p.m., two men entered a variety store in the area of Dundurn Street and Herkimer Street and demanded that the female clerk empty the cash registers. The two men, one brandishing a knife and the other a hammer, threatened to kill the victim if she didn’t listen to their demands. The victim complied, removed the cash drawers and handed both the cash and coins over. The suspects then quickly fled from the store and jumped into an awaiting vehicle. The 53-year-old victim was not injured. The suspect brandishing the knife is described as a male, 5’8ft to 5’9ft, 130 lbs, thin build, wearing a black leather type jacket, a black hoodie jacket underneath the with the hood pulled over his head, a white bandana covering all of his face, black casual pants and black running shoes. The suspect holding the hammer is described as a male, 5’7ft to 5’8’ft, 170 lbs, medium build, black jacket with two white stripes on the front, one two stripes on the back of each shoulder, black hoodie underneath, white bandanna covering his face, dark blue sweat pants with large white lettering from the waist to the knee of the left leg and dark running shoes. Both suspects are thought to be white. The suspect vehicle is described as a four-door, late model, similar to a Nissan Altima or a Honda Accord with a sun roof. The Hamilton Police Service BEAR Unit continues to investigate. Robbery (Commercial): On June 13th, 2013 at approximately 9:45 p.m., two masked men entered a variety store in the area of Maplewood Avenue and Prospect Street South and demanded that the female clerk hand over all of the money. The two men, one brandishing a knife and the other a hammer were handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and proceeded to demand cigarettes. Before the clerk could hand over the cigarettes the suspects became nervous and ran from the store and jumped into an awaiting vehicle. The 66-year-old victim was not injured. A short time later a variety store on Dundurn Street was robbed. Police believe the suspects involved are responsible for both robberies. The Hamilton Police Service BEAR Unit continues to investigate. Assist Fire (Residential): On June 14th, 2013 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to assist the Hamilton Fire Department with a residential fire of a two storey home in the area of Sanford Avenue North and Wilson Street. Residents on the ground floor and basement were evacuated but the officers could not get to the second floor as it was fully involved. Hamilton Fire extinguished the fire and did not locate any occupants in the upper unit. Hamilton Fire has contacted the OFM and they are responding. Impaired Driving: On June 13th, 2013 at approximately 5:45 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the a restaurant parking lot in the area of Queenston Road and Clapham Road after receiving reports of a single vehicle collision. The driver was driving his car in the parking lot of the restaurant when he crashed into a large garbage bin. Staff from the restaurant brought the driver into the business and contacted police. Police spoke with the driver who showed signs of impairment. He was arrested and taken to the police station for a breathalyzer test. The driver blew over two times the legal limit. The 59-year-old Hamilton man was released on a Promise to Appear with a charge of Impaired and Over 80 mg. Over 80 mg: On June 13th, 2013 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Hamilton Police were alerted to a suspected impaired driver on Slater Court in Waterdown. Police stopped the vehicle and through conversation it was learned that the driver had been drinking. The driver was given a roadside test and failed. The driver was arrested and taken to the police station for a breathalyzer test. The driver blew two times over the legal limit. The 58-year-old Flamborough man was released on a Promise to Appear with a charge of Over 80 mg. Break, Enter and Theft: On June 14th, 2013 at approximately 3:00 a.m., a home on Glendale Avenue North was entered as the homeowner slept in her bed upstairs. She was only awoken when she heard her dog barking. The woman then heard her front door squeak and proceeded to go downstairs to inspect. The woman did not see anything and so returned to bed. When the woman started her day she went to grab her purse and found it had been stolen. The door was unlocked allowing the suspect to walk in and grab the purse a few steps away. There is no suspect description. The Hamilton Police Service Division Two Detectives continues to investigate. Break, Enter and Theft: On June 14th, 2013 between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., a suspect entered a residential home in the area of Cannon Street East and Glendale Avenue as the homeowner slept. It is believed that the suspect popped out the screen from an open front window and crawled through the ground floor window. Once inside the suspect stole the homeowner’s purse and left through the back door. There is no suspect description. The Hamilton Police Service Division Two Detectives continues to investigate. ***It is unknown if the two entries are linked and police continue to investigate.***
