But I must confess that I am not afraid of the word - TopicsExpress

But I must confess that I am not afraid of the word tension. Wait has almost always meant Never. - MLK Jr.s Letter from a Birmingham Jail The principle that progress and justice require tension - and that tension is therefore not inherently a bad thing - is something Im still learning. I still struggle to cope with the necessity of tension, and Im sometimes guilty of not defending the good simply to avoid tension. As I read these words this morning, however, I could only think of my partner. Moreso than almost anyone I know, Christine is willing to risk the ire and discomfort of her friends and family in order to voice that which she believes to be right. When I might shy away from a topic or ignore a comment for the sake of polite conversation, she can not remain silent even in the face of slight injustices. For this reason and so many others, Christine is an inspiration to me every day. I am truly grateful that my children and I have such a powerful voice for justice and love in our family, one who will not allow us to turn away from the good fight. MLK Jr. day brings plenty of reflection. But for me Im not sure that it would if not for my beautiful partner.
