Brian Clem easily won a sixth term in House District 21 against Republican challenger Beverly Wright, who refused nearly all forms of traditional campaigning. Clem is a familiar face in the district, having represented it since 2006. In his most recent term, he helped to unanimously pass a bill establishing a grand bargain for land use and urban expansion in Washington County. Wright was a decidedly unfamiliar face. She served as a Yamhill County precinct representative more than a decade ago and occasionally appears on CCTV, but kept herself out of this campaign. Wright refused to spend or raise any money, and she did not pay to have her picture and biography included in the Voters Pamphlet. Clem wasnt exactly shocked by his landslide victory. When (the opponent) isnt campaigning, you dont exactly bite your nails all election night, he said. STATESMANJOURNAL Election profile: Clem vs. Wright in House District 21 But he said he admired some of the ideas Wright raised in the campaign — such as a sweat equity program that would ask people receiving social services to do community service — and he would consider similar ideas in the future. Clem said continued economic and agricultural development would be high priorities in his next term, and he hopes to create a Certified Oregon branding campaign for Oregon products that are sold abroad. Wright did not immediately return requests for comment. House District 21 is near and dear to many of Oregons state workers: It is home to the state Capitol building and the nearby downtown area, giving it a greater population of state employees than most other districts. Would you like to know the truth? I could not run for office because they sent the DOJ after me and my family. They sent Senior and disabled services after me. They illegally fired my care provider to make certain I had NO transportation. They trired to scare my neighbors. They held a grand jury. They blocked me from running. The Statesman journal newspaper is ran by a Democratic agenda driven owner who plays nice with a corrupt Capitol. Lets not forget the TONS of votes they threw out. Or the Voting machines which were blocking votes across the country.
