Topping both the elementary and secondary divisions, the Bulacan delegation, which has produced great athletes like Asia’s former sprint queen Lydia de Vega, swept away 81 gold medals (44 in elementary and 37 in secondary level); 60 silver medals (34 elementary, 28 secondary) and 56 bronze medals (29 elementary, 27 secondary) and took home trophies and certificate of recognitions. Bataan was followed by 2nd runner up Olongapo City and 3rd runner up Pampanga while Nueva Ecija and Zambales ended up 4th and 5th runner ups, respectively. According to Department of Education-Bulacan PESS Division Supervisor Gilbert Agapito, young Bulakenyo athletes excelled in major sports events like athletics, swimming, table tennis, volleyball, football, softball, taekwondo and lawn tennis, making them rule the annual regional athletics meet. He also added that the delegation received support from the Provincial Government headed by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado which was a big help that inspired them in achieving the number one rank in the field of sports in the region. Alvarado lauded the efforts of the Bulacan delegation in giving their best in the competition and congratulated the student-athletes, their coaches and staff for doing a good job in the field of sports. “They keep on getting better. In behalf of the people and the province of Bulacan, I would like to extend a heart-felt congratulation to our contingent. May they keep on competing well and produce more great athletes not only for the province and region but to the country as well,” the governor said. He also congratulated organizers and the delegations from the province of Aurora, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pampanga and Zambales for the successful holding of the annual regional sports meet saying every one is a winner. “The annual regional sports meet is a good venue not only for instilling discipline, honing skills and talents but also the best time for fostering camaraderie to our athletes, coaches and staff of the event,” Alvarado said. All of the outstanding athletes who won first place in their respective sports events in CLRAA will represent the region in the Palarong Pambansa 2015. bulacan.gov.ph/newsarticle.php?id=2185 Group 4.
