By contrast, this is Konupište, the favourite residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand (he spent a good deal of his time in Bohemia as his wife did not share his royal status, and was subject to a series of petty humiliations in Vienna). Inside the castle, which is a large hunting lodge filled with game trophies, there survives in a series of glazed bookcases one of the Archdukes several libraries. It consists of a mix of modern books, earlier books inherited from ancestors (an eighteenth-century Italian botanical book bound for presentation to Holy Roman Emperor Franz in 1748, for example), and lots of albums of commercially-produced photographic prints evidently acquired on Franz Ferdinands foreign travel (big game much in evidence).
