By popular request, here’s the scoop as far as the Battle of the Bulge is concerned… or how I’m spending my summer vacation. After a CT scan a week or so ago, it was determined that my lovely little aneurysm was about 5.8 centimeters. It sits kind of high on the aorta, so unfortunately the less invasive, stinting method of handling it isn’t an option and will require surgery. Not enough room to set the stint, which would likely interfere with blood flow to the kidneys. So, went from sucky to suckier…. pretty spooky. I thought maybe I could do it myself with an Xacto knife and a piece of garden hose but was informed it wasn’t quite that easy. I also considered just going with it for a while and see if it continues to grow, but was informed it’s about as big as they want to see it and I’ve been kind of lucky over the past couple years with all the chopping, lifting etc. and not rupturing the fuel line. So, sometime after the first of August. Kind of an intense procedure as they clamp you off, split the aorta, slip in and attach a piece of hose and then put you back together again, if I understand it right. This, followed by a fair amount of time in intensive care and hospital. I imagine they don’t want you to do something stupid for a while following the surgery. So, it takes a while to come back from it. I am working on keeping the paper going through the process. Also walking 3 miles a day (very carefully) for a little extra conditioning. I guess the surgery can be pretty hard on the heart because you lose so much blood, but on the positive side it is supposed to be a pretty solid and reliable procedure, which doesn’t require frequent checks to see how the plumbing is doing, afterward. Words of wisdom welcomed… Karen? … and Brenda, could you send me brother Bills phone number. He called, and I of course lost the number. I realize different procedure, but appreciated the call. Anyone who would like to contribute and help fill a paper during that time, you’re more than welcome to it. Feel great and am in good condition otherwise.
