C. 1861 Flint Glass Finger Lamp & c1860s Broad Petal Chimney One never knows what theyll rediscover, tucked away, in their own home! This little olde gem, was hidden away...waaaayy back...in one of my kitchen cabinets! [I highly recommend, a periodic sweep, of all kitchen cabinet contents...you never know, what goodies are hiding in the dark! :)] Early, size 0, Ribbed or aka Pumpkin finger lamp, w/ applied handle. Flint composition w/ a good weight, for its petite size, & great balance as well. Well-polished pontil; flush & smooth to the touch, on the slightly concave, base underside. Fine, 2-line collar, w/ original plaster, & a gloriously rich & even patina. This lamp was pressed, w/ a patterned plunger, as the pattern is inverted & felt, on the inside. A very soft, pastel Lavender, from natural solarization...NOT irradiated! NOTES - Regarding solarization: There are mixed opinions amongst collectors & merchants, concerning this natural process. Its the element, Manganese, added to the glass formula, which reacts to UV exposure, slowly over time. Manganese has long-since been used as a decolorizer, to oxidize & neutralize the green tint [Iron] found in sand, until the year 1915. Manganese Dioxide, has been nicknamed, glassmakers soap. [Cool fact, & a nifty piece of trivia to use, w/ your fellow lamp-collecting friends ;)] The chimney, is blown & hand-tooled, into the highly sought-after, broad petal top. The shape, is also indicative, of early slip-chimney examples. The fitter is completely smooth. Now...if I could just find a good place to display, YET ANOTHER lamp! Lol Thanks for reading :)
