Young European sculptors are invited to apply for participation in a free international diabas masterclass. Diabas is a black to green vulcanic stone of about 1 billion years old. Diabas quarried in the south of Sweden belongs to the best quality in the world. The free masterclass is offered in the framework of the development of the International Diabas Sculpture Centre in Olofström, which is part this year of the Art & Technology project Olofström, owned by the Municipality of Olofström. The project is financed by Leader Blekinge and Region Blekinge, Sweden. The free masterclass takes place at Zaarstone AB in Olofström, Sweden in the period from June 16 to June 28, 2014. Participants are considered to be professionally educated as sculptors and younger than 30 years old. Participation in the masterclass is totally free. There are no costs for equipment, materials (diabas approximately 50 x 50 x 50 cms) and education. Three respected sculptors/tutors are invited to guide the participants in the masterclass: Chris Peterson (England/Holland), Ton Kalle (Holland), Atilla Rath Geber (Hungary). All art works executed during the masterclass are considered the property of the municipality of Olofström. During the masterclass a free stay in the artist-in-residence in Olofström is offered to the participants, including free daily transportation between Zaarstone and the residence. Participants are responsible for own travel costs and costs for meals (€ 10 per day) and drinks. Participants are expected to help the staff by rotation to prepare the daily meals, to wash up and to keep the residence clean. Participants are expected to maintain the Rules of the house, including a final cleaning before leaving. Young European sculptors are welcome to send their applications to [email protected] Selection of the participants takes place between April 10 and 13, 2014. 10 selected applicants will receive their invitation for the free masterclass before April 15, 2014. The municipallity of Olofström does not accept any claims concerning personal health and personal properties. All visitors have to arrange their own personal insurances.
