CAF: Pillars Plan To Break First Round Jinx, Set Committee Kano Pillars Football Club has constituted a seven-man committee that would oversee the club activities during the 2014 edition of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League. Kano PillarsKano Pillars last two appearances (2011 and 2013) on the continent ended in the First Round. Their last outing in 2013 ended in a disappointing loss to AC Léopards despite winning the first leg 4-1 in Kano. AC Léopards won the second leg at home 3-0 to edge Kano Pillars on away goal (4-4 aggregate). The board has however set up committee and put other plans in place to ensure the team break the three-year First Round elimination jinx. The committee has the board chairman Abba Yola as its chairman, Alhaji Uba Danzainab, Sharu Rabi’u Inuwa Ahlan, Prof. Rabi’u Muhammad, Shehu Abdullahi and Abba Galadima as members while Secretary of the club Zakari Akilu Bichi will serve as Secretary of the committee. The board also set up another 3 subcommittees that would facilitates other responsibilities during the club CAF Champions League. The sub committees are Accommodation to be headed by Sharu Rabi’u Inuwa Ahlan, Facilities, medical and security committee to be headed by Prof. Rabi’u Muhammad and protocol, transport and public relation committee to be headed by Alhaji Uba Danzainab while Alhaji Abba Yola and Shehu Adamu would act as general coordinators. While inaugurating the committee at the board meeting in the club secretariat in Kano, the chairman of the board Alhaji Abba Yola said the committee was set up to come out with modalities and strategies that would assist the club to do well in the championship considering the time constraint ahead of them. He charged the committee members to work hard and carry everybody along for the success of their assignment and assured them his support and cooperation. Part of the other plans is the assurance of support given to the chief coach of the club Abdullahi Maikaba. He has been directed to continue handling the team pending the appointment of new technical Adviser. Kano Pillars will begin their quest for glory in this year’s edition of the CAF Champions League away in the Preliminary Round game against AS Vita of Democratic Republic of Congo in Kinshasa on the weekend of February 7-9, 2014. The second leg will hold in Kano on the weekend of February 14-16, 2014. Out of the three appearances in the CAF Champions League, Kano Pillars’ semi final feat in 2009 is still remains their best in the competition. The team lost 5-0 on aggregate to Heartland FC of Owerri in the battle of two Nigerian clubs for the final ticket.
