CAMPOSOL ‘D’ GARDENING AND COMMUNITY GROUP MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON 1ST OCT 2014 Present; Mike Drummond – Chairman Bob Owen – Treasurer And 27 residents Apologies: Steve Blackman Judy Philips The Chairman opened the meeting by clarifying that this was a normal monthly D Group Meeting and was not a meeting to discuss the recent Disaster although that matter was on the agenda. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE PREVIOUS MEETING The only matter arising was a ChaIrmans congratulations on behalf of the group to Tom Wills and his team for providing a well organised and appreciated Street Party held in June. CHAIRMANS REPORT The Chairman reported that our Summer Break was welcomed by the few volunteers including our Concrete Team who worked further into the Summer than some others. Of course our members Maureen and Clive Gritt, Pete Bradbury and others continued with their own volunteer work as did our gallant Bucketeers. The D Car and trailers were very badly damaged, possibly Beyond Economic Repair, therefore Alan Muncaster suggested that he post that the service is not currently available. Thanks Alan. FINANCIAL REPORT A current balance of 8253.49 was reported by Bob our Treasurer. Bob stated that he had announced his resignation as our Treasurer with effect from our AGM. He stated that no volunteer had come forward to replace him at which point Anita Girvan expressed an interest. WE STILL NEED A VOLUNTEER TO RUN THE BUCKET COLLECTIONS. Bob and Anita will speak later and confirm at the AGM the decision regarding her volunteering to take over. Thanks to Bob and Anita. It was suggested by two new members that the Group pursue the possibility of either a Direct Debit Scheme or a Direct Payment Scheme aimed mainly at residents who are not permanently living here. Agreed that this would be an item for the AGM’s Agenda. FUNDRAISING REPORT In the absence of Linda and Les, the Chairman reported that the Christmas Dance was organised and progressing well. Unfortunately only three cars had entered the proposed Car Treasure Hunt therefore it was decided to postpone the event. DISASTER ON D The Chairman asked Bob Owen to report on his meeting with the British Ambassador, the British Consulate from Alicante and the Mayor of Mazarron. Quite simply, Bob reported that the Ambassador and Consulate were extremely impressed with the rapport and communication situation that Bob and the CRA have set up with the Mayor and Council of Mazarron. He officially thanked the Mayor for his immediate and excellent response to the disaster. The Ambassador stated that Camposol should be held as an excellent example throughout Spain of the integration with local authorities that hard work can achieve. Discussions were held regarding the various situations on D and all agreed that the response of the Mayor of Mazarron, the Emergency Services and the help given by our own Mayor of Camposol Jose Navarro was impressive and very welcomed. The members agreed that the Chairman should write a Letter of Thanks directly to the Mayor. Many of our Communal Gardens and areas that we have gravelled have been demolished and some badly affected by the flooding. The ChaIrman asked those present to contact him with confirmed areas that are affected, a list will be made and recovery worked implemented at a convenient point in time. The Chairman is to confirm the ownership of the leftover gravel on C that was used by Pedro to complete the central reservation project. DISASTER FUND The Chairman reported that a music group called the Gekkoes contacted him one day after the flooding to say that they would like to raise money for the D Disaster Fund. He thanked them for their gesture but pointed out that a fund had not been started but to please go ahead. Over the weekend Vista bar reported to him that they had raised 240 euros and the Colin Thackery did a bike ride raising over 1000 euros. The Chairman told the others the same. Michelle Miles then reported that she want to hold a Concert to raise money. After a lengthy discussion is was agreed that our Group would use its legal bank account to hold money if requested and that we would await the legal guidance we require, from Jose who was seeking this from the council representatives with this experience. NOTE – Following the meeting Jose has reported that any registered Charity may administer such a fund therefore the main players will need to meet and discuss such actions and what road we will follow. The Chairman will set this meeting up ASAP. CHAIRMANS ANNOUNCEMENT The Chairman considered it appropriate to wait until this part of the meeting rather in his opening speech to make that following announcement. Due to personal matters Linda and Les Crook will offer their resignations for Secretary and Fundraising Members at the AGM to be held in Nov 2014. The Chairman then stated that after a long period of consideration, prior to the flooding, that he himself would also tender his resignation as Chairman at the AGM. He stated that he felt that the current “Top Table” had served the Group and Community well during the past 6 years, but perhaps now was a good time for a complete change hopefully bringing new blood to our existing Group. When asked by a concerned member if the resignees were making a complete break from the Group, the Chairman stated that certainly the Crooks and himself would remain as Poligono reps with Bob and them available for any help or guidance the new committee needed. Alan Muncaster asked if it was the correct time to propose a Vote of Thanks to all the Top Table members; the Chairman said of course it was and he may do so as often as he wished (haha). ANY OTHER BUSINESS Stuart Green reported that illegal dumping is occurring on the waste land on D34, this is not the emergency dumping by the council. He reported that a complaint had been made by himself and his neighbours to Tatiana but had heard no feedback. Jose agreed to follow this up and keep in touch with the concerned residents regarding any information he gains. It was agreed that Stuart conduct a survey with regard to moving our concrtet blocks form the old pits to entrances around the affected area. When decided Stuart is to contact the Chairman and both to arrange the necessary requirements. Ness reported that she awaits matters regarding the flood to settle and she will then contact the Chairman and discuss Antonios priority jobs. The Chairman, on behalf of many of our D residents, thanked Jose for his prompt and decisive and helpful actions during and since the flooding event. The Chairman also thanked the many many volunteers who responded positively with their help again during and since the disaster. Volunteer work still continues all over D and any help that is given or offered is very very welcome. M Drummond
