~ CAN A DIET HELP IF I LOST MY THYROID?~ This is a question many people ask. The short answer is: ABSOLUTELY YES! I want to empower you with some understanding why that is so: 1. Even if you lost your thyroid, the meds you are taking depend on your gut and your liver to break them down, absorb them and utilize them. 2. If you are only on synthetic T4 (like Synthroid), your body still depends on your liver to convert the T4 hormone to T3 which is the active hormone utilized by your cells. 3. If you have/had Hashimito’s Disease, you have an autoimmune condition. This means your own immune system, due to a mutation, starts attacking your own organs mistaking them for an enemy. Why would removing the thyroid gland stop this immune mutation? This is why 50% with Hashi’s develop other, often far worse, autoimmune conditions like MS, fibromyalgia, lupus, RA and so many more (it’s a pandemic now). Once the immune system is reactive it will continue to be reactive (just to different cells/glands/organs) unless we do something about it. In all three points, nutritional changes can make a huge difference. Starting with cleaning up your gut and liver to maximize the drug (like Synthroid) utilization to preventing other AI diseases from developing. After all, 70% of the immune system lives in the gut (think: GALT or Gut-Associated-Lymphatic-Tissue starts in the duodenum, a part of your small intestine). It’s true that once you have Hashi’s you have it forever – this includes me. But, you can get to a place of remission, be symptoms-free and live a full life. I have worked with many people who lost their thyroid to cancer or radiation. You can look up their stories here thyroiddietcoach/success-stories/clients-journeys/, look for Janice or Joy’s story. Is this helpful? Does it give you hope now that you can do something to help yourself?
