*******CASTING CALL******** *****LOOKING FOR EIGHT PERFORMERS***** Chyron, A Melodrama is a new performance work by artist Luis Mejico. Chyrons are a common name for television graphics that occupy the lower area of a screen . These graphics are typically textual, and can serve as titles, subtitles, captions, and so on. Chyron layers common film and television tropes and blends them with a disjointed, often overly sentimental story of a woman attempting to leave her previous life behind her. By translating the flat and 2-dimensional world of the screen into a live, 3-dimensional and 3-planed object + performance, Chyron, A Melodrama satirizes common film and television archetypes through exaggeration and repetition, all the while deconstructing relationships between characters through the distortion of language present in dialogue, monologue, and other communicative tools that express relationships between actors on-screen. Chyron, A Melodrama will premiere on January 31st as part of the opening of Uptown Arts Centers the good, the true, the beautiful, , a group show featuring Delaney Mott, Benjamin DeMott, Alex Bradley-Cohen, Marissa Neuman, and others. I am currently looking for eight other performers to fill the eight other roles in the work. Expectations / Requirements -Look over and work on an understanding of an overall script between now and January 17th -Attend a planning meeting on January 17th (in person or via Skype if out of town) -Attend a total of 3 rehearsals; January 23rd, 24th, and 30th (times TBA) -Attend a final rehearsal + the actual performance on January 31st (4pm - 10pm) -Be comfortable reading + memorizing several lines of a script If you are interested, please reach me via Facebook or email ([email protected]). I will be out of town from January 3rd to the 17th, but can be reached via FB or email. Once a cast has been assembled, detailed scripts will be sent out to all participants. Please let me know if you have any questions. Bio: Luis Mejico is a performance artist and sculptor currently based in Chicago, IL.
