CELEBRATIONS Last Saturday, September 28, 2013, I joined other guests to witness and celebrate the dedication of five African Sign Language translations at the beautiful Deaf Opportunity Out Reach- International (DOOR) Centre on the outskirts of Nairobi. The next day, Sunday, September 29, 2013, I also participated in a life-changing worship service organized and led by the Deaf translators ... Both the dedication ceremony on Saturday, and particularly the worship service on Sunday, further strengthened my conviction that Sign Language is a legitimate minority language, with a definite need for translation! If I had any doubts, these two events certainly erased them. (quote from a guest) CELEBRATING ... The completion of the second phase -- Follow God How? -- of the translation into five African Sign languages: 1. Burundi 2. Ghana 3. Ethiopia 4. Tanzania 5. Uganda The DOOR sign language Bible translation program consists of a group of 110 Bible story sets, each having three parts-introduction, story and discussion. The story sets are broken into three series: • Know God How? (evangelism) • Follow God How? (discipleship) • Serve God How? (strengthening Deaf believers and their fellowships) OTHER CELEBRATIONS ... On October 6, 2013, Deaf people in the India state of Karnataka were celebrating the completions of the first series -- Know God How? -- in THEIR sign language. For the very first time these Deaf were able to see and understand Gods story in their heart language from a DVD Bible with storyboard, thanks to the very hard work of the Deaf translation team in the state of Karnataka. Soon there will also be celebrations in the state of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. REJOICE WITH US! Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.
