CHALLENGE TROPHY 4TH AUGUST – LEVELS Here is a brief report for the Pro-7s that ran, luckily and thanks to Karen at SCCC we were able to run a stand alone class for our cars which was helpful. It was a cold semi wet day at the start, and qualifying proved to be tippie toe stuff, Jason Corboy proved he could easily win the Pro-7 drift series with some great car control, George Gilbert had a bad start with going off several times, until he ended up in the new sand trap at end of the back straight! where it sat for the qualifying , lucky for the sand trap as we would have had a very bent car. Mitchell Hamilton was fastest with a smooth 1.22.8 then Drifter Jas on a 1.22.89 then Chris Adams on a 1.24.0 then Craig O’keeffe on a 1.24.1 then George on a 1.26.6. Race one was still very damp and reflected the lap times, it didn’t stop the boys swapping positions during the race with George and Mitchell dicing for position, Jason drove away from the battle behind him to win the race, he still had time to drift off the circuit during the race! Jason 1st Mitchell 2nd George 3rd Race two, the track had a dry ish line and the lap times started to improve, The day was starting to warm up and the dry line became wider, all got a clean start with George taking the lead early on, and really wasn’t challenged by our cars, Hamish Collins was chasing George along in his Batman series car but wasn’t able to pass, how ever Hamish did slow on the last lap. Chris and Craig O were in battle, and they looked to be having a ball. George 1 Hamish 2 Mitchell 3 Race 3, Dry track conditions nice clean start by all, George and Mitchell battling for the owner ship of the first corner, George came out in the lead that never changed, how ever Mitchell was applying pressure were ever he could and was a great race to watch , Jason was applying pressure to Mitch how ever was unable to get by. George 1 Mitchell 2 Jason 3 It was really good to see Chris Adams out, if that was your first time in a Pro-7 then you will be one to watch!, Craig O”Keeffe drove brilliantly and just showed every body that he will be a strong contender in these Pro-7 cars which are hard to drive fast, I hope Craig can sell some of his other toys ,and that he is able to join us this year, Craig O is a great social contender with skills that will surface during the season, sure hope you can make it. Congratulations to George Gilbert on taking the first trophy of the season and will be hoping this good form continues throughout the coming season. Thanks to the SCCC for giving us a stand alone race, and thanks to all our Pro-7 guys , girls and supporter’s for turning up, it was great to catch up, see you all at Invercargill.
