CHAOS IN DOVER TODAY. SUSPECTED illegal immigrants who fled from a lorry at the Western Docks sparked a police chase in Dover this morning. Seventeen people are reported to have got off the HGV in the lorry park and run towards the Western Heights. Ten men from Syria have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences and transferred to immigration detention while a further seven are at large. They will face removal from the country if found to have no right to remain. Seven people are believed to have escaped capture. A spokesman for the Port of Dover said: “They are understood to be illegal immigrants. “The lorry was over in the Western Docks – in the lorry park. “Apparently at some time this morning they ran out of the lorry.” Officers were spotted near the Drop Redoubt at around 9.30am this morning. The port spokesman later added: “A number of people were reported to have alighted from a freight lorry at the Western Docks. “Port of Dover Police attended the incident and detained 10 people who are now with the UK Border Force. “The incident has now been stood down by Port of Dover Police and Kent Police and Border Force are continuing with their investigations.” A Home Office spokesperson said: “When suspected illegal immigrants found on lorries are arrested by police we respond quickly. “We work closely with police to tackle illegal immigration. Where someone is found to have no legal right to remain in the UK we will take action to remove them.”
