CHAPUNGU HOLD HIGHLANDERS Highlanders PSL campaign got off to an unlikely start after being restricted to a 0-0 draw by Chapungu in their league opening match on Saturday. The draw saw the Bulawayo giants extending their winless streak to four matches in different competitions that include Bob90 Super Cup final loss and Independence Trophy elimination. Both sides missed numerous chances to settle for the draw. Highlanders manager Willard Khumalo was ejected from the bench in the first half for remonstration after referee Thomas Masaa had waved play on following a foul on Gabriel Nyoni inside the penalty box. Coach Kelvin Kaindu opted to start Kuda Mahachi from the bench but the winger failed to make any meaningful contribution following his second half introduction replacing Charles Sibanda. Milton Ncube and Gabriel Nyoni started as twin strikers for Highlanders but the duo with support from offensive midfielder Sibanda failed to breach the Chapungu defence marshaled by former Shabanie Mine center back Blessed Mabavaira. Chapungu chief forward Callisto Maheya was denied by Munyaradzi Diya as Chapungu threatened to go ahead three minutes into the match. Highlanders responded with Nyoni, Ncube and attempting at goal. Diya made other impressive saves after the restart by denying Mabhuku Brighton and Mugoni’s threatening efforts.
