CHAPUNGU READY FOR HARARE CITY THIS FRIDAY AIRMEN Chapungu will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways when they host resurgent Harare City at Ascot Stadium tomorrow. Chapungu come into the match at the back of a 0 -1 defeat at the hands of unbeaten ZPC Kariba while the Sunshine Boys, who had a bad start to the Castle Lager Premiership season have put their campaign back on track. City hammered Bantu Rovers 4-1 on Monday to move out of the relegation zone. Chapungu gaffer, John Nyikadzino said he will be taking the game seriously in light of Harare City’s resurgence. He said: “This is a big game for us considering that Harare City are now playing well so we are taking them seriously and we know they will not be pushovers.” Chapungu will be missing the services of their top marksman Callisto Maheya and defender Blessed Mbavarira who will be serving the first of his three match ban after he was given his marching orders in the match against ZPC Kariba after a crude lunge on Russell Manuvire. Also missing in the gold and blue colours of the Gweru-based outfit would be right back Charles Mativenga who picked a knock in the same game. Asked to comment on the absence of Mbavarira and Mativenga, Nyikadzino had no kind words for the ZPC Kariba mentor, Saul Chaminuka and the media for “blowing the issue of Mbavarira’s red card out of proportion.” “On the issue of Mbavarira I think the media blew the issue out of proportion by crucifying the young man. I do not condone his actions but the way he has been persecuted is uncalled for. “Charles Mativenga was also injured in the same match and will not be taking part in the game tomorrow but nothing has been said about the player who injured him. (Saul) Chaminuka is equally to blame for invading the pitch and dramatising the incident in an effort to get sympathy from supporters which I feel is not good for football,” Nyikadzino added. While the Chapungu coach was spewing venom on the media, City coach Bigboy Mawiwi was upbeat about the possibility of handing Chapungu their first defeat at Ascot this season. Said Mawiwi: “We are very much aware of the fact that Ascot Stadium is Chapungu’s fortress. We are appealing to the people of Gweru to come in their numbers and witness a good game. With all due respect to Nyikadzino, who is a good coach, we are going to Gweru to collect three points.”- CHRONICLE
