CHENNAI, The Madras High Court on Friday directed Dharmapuri District Collector to consider a representation of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi chief Thol.Thirumavalan to allow him to attend funeral of Ilavarasan. The Bench, comprising Justices V.Dhanapalan and C.T.Selvam also gave this directive on a petition filed by Mr.Thiurumavalavan who sought to allow him to attend the funeral. Imposing a prohibitory order in the area, the district administration did not allow him to enter the district. Hence, he filed the petition seeking to allow him to attend the funeral. Disposing of his petition, the Judges said, "Since the petitioner is a Member of Parliament, espousing the cause of Dalit Community and assured of maintaining public tranquillity in the district, it would be appropriate to direct the District Collector to consider his request taking into account of the prevailing situation." Meanwhile, the Bench granted an interim bail to 15 persons including six advocates who were arrested on Thursday in Dharmapuri for violating the prohibitory order and also for preventing the police officers from doing their duties. The court directed them to stay in Salem and report before a Judicial Magistrate in Salem daily until further orders. The court also directed them to approach the Dharmapuri District Collector for attending the funeral.
