CHIARI POETRY Warrior Pain splintering through my head, like lightning bursting through the earth during a violent thunderstorm. Constant ringing, like an unanswered telephone in my ears. Words slurring together, like after a night of heavy drinking. Tingling and numbness as if a part of my body has gone to sleep. Dizziness swirling in my head, like after leaping from a speeding merry-go-round. Pulling myself up off the ground, after a blackout like a small power surge. Tears streaming down my face daily, from pain, being misunderstood and misdiagnosed for years. Fear there will not be a day, that goes by without debilitating symptoms. Arnold-Chiari sounds like a person you pass on the streets, But in reality it’s a disease that grabs ahold of you and never lets go. I am a warrior doused in a purple aura, Fighting daily to feel some sense of normalcy, understanding and relief. Join the crusade, help spread the word! Arnold-Chiari Malformation is silent and invisible but it does not mean it is not real. Written by Sammantha Kinard ICA NOTE: Another excellent poem by Sammantha Kinard.
