CHINA’S UNIVERSITY OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS VISITS MGIMO A delegation from China’s University of International Relations (UIR) led by vice-president, professor Jiang Ruiping visited MGIMO on June 27, and was welcomed by vice rector for international cooperation and public relations, Andrei Silantiev. In his welcoming address the vice rector spoke about MGIMO and its baccalaureate and master programs, as well as the European double diploma program, and emphasized the commitment of MGIMO to establishing something similar with Pacific Rim tertiary institutions. Professor Jiang Ruiping spoke about the operations of the UIR, which, like MGIMO in Russia, operates directly under the aegis of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting saw a commitment to a cooperation agreement between the two institutions, which will be signed when the rector of the UIR visits Moscow in autumn. Following a proposal from Andrei Silantiev, both MGIMO and UIR will look at the establishment of a double master program in English. China’s University of International Relations was founded in 1955, and currently has about 2400 Chinese and 100 international students. Since it began UIR has graduated more than 17 000 students, including 30 subsequently appointed ministers, more than 200 who have served as Chinese ambassadors internationally, and more than 100 who have held high level diplomatic and civil service posts. The UIR has specialist bachelor and master programs, as well as doctoral studies in diplomacy, international relations, business and languages. The UIR also conducts short-term courses for the Chinese civil servants and diplomats. mgimo.ru/news/university/document240142.phtml
