CHRISTIANS ALWAYS ASKING WHO WAS THE FIRST MUSLIM ACCORDING TO THE QURAN GIVING VERSES NUMMBERS ONLY THE ANSWER IS : WHO WAS THE FIRST MUSLIM ? (2:130) Now, who else can have aversion to the way of Abraham but the one who has debased himself with folly and ignorance? Abraham was the man whom We chose for Our service in this world, and in the Next World he shall be among the righteous. (2:131) When his Lord said to him, Surrender, *130 he promptly responded, I have surrendered to the Lord of the Universe (and become a Muslim). *130. Muslim signifies he who bows in obedience to God, who acknowledges God alone as his Sovereign, Lord and Master, and the only object of worship, devotion and service, who unreservedly surrenders himself to God and undertakes to live his life in accordance with the guidance that has come down from Him. Islam is the appellation which characterizes the above -mentioned belief and outlook which constitutes the core and kernel of the religion of all the Prophets who have appeared from time to time among different peoples and in different countries since the very beginning of human life. (7:143) And when Moses came at Our appointment, and his Lord spoke to him, he said: O my Lord! Reveal Yourself to me, that I may look upon You! He replied: Never can you see Me. However, behold this mount; if it remains firm in its place, only then you will be able to see Me. And as soon as his Lord unveiled His glory to the mount, He crushed it into fine dust, and Moses fell down in a swoon. And when he recovered, he said: Glory be to You! To You I turn in repentance, and I am the foremost among those who believe. *131. Jacob is especially mentioned since the Children of Israel were his direct descendants. *132. This marks the beginning of the second discourse. The period of its revelation is about 9 A.H., when a delegation from the Christian republic of Najran visited the Prophet. Najran lies between the Hijaz and Yaman, and comprised, at that time, seventy-three towns and villages. Its population can be gauged from the fact that an estimated one hundred and twenty thousand men could bear arms. The entire population was Christian and was under the hegemony of three Christian chiefs. The first of these, aqib, was the head of the community. The second, sayyid, looked after the collective and political affairs of the people. The third, usquf (bishop), was their religious leader. When the Prophet annexed Makka, the whole of Arabia became convinced that the future of the area was bound up with him, and deputations from all parts of the peninsula began to visit him. In this connection the three chiefs of Najran came to Madina accompanied by sixty people. As they were not prepared to go to war, the alternatives before them were either to embrace Islam or to live as dhimmis (protected non-Muslim subjects of the Islamic state). It was on this occasion that God revealed this discourse; it served as an invitation to the people of Najran to accept Islam. *30. Imran was the father of Moses and Aaron, and has been mentioned in the Bible as Amram ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (7:143) And when Moses came at Our appointment, and his Lord spoke to him, he said: O my Lord!
