CHUBBY TUMMY......READ THIS...... THE ANTIOXIDANT ‘CITRUS’ VITAMIN: VITAMIN C Did you know that Vitamin C is the only nutrient that improves fat loss by approximately 30 percent and increases your fat burning potential during exercise by as much as 400 percent according to the Journal of the American College of Nutrition? Adequate vitamin C is essential for proper fat metabolism. Low vitamin C is linked with increased weight and belly fat. Vitamin C is required for production of molecules used in oxidation, or metabolism, of fatty tissue. Without sufficient vitamin C, your body is unable to use stored fat. Your body is still producing fatty tissue for energy, but is unable to use it. This causes a buildup of fat, especially in the abdominal area. Medically speaking, Vitamin C is an essential cofactor for the biosynthesis of a small protein-like molecule known as carnitine. Carnitine functions to shuttle fat molecules to the site of fax oxidation in tissue cells and its deficiency reduces the bodys synthesis of L-carnitine, an amino acid that the mitochondria need to burn fatty acids. Most of us think we consume enough vitamin C, but we forget that large amounts of the vitamin are lost during food processing, moreover, Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin so it isn’t stored in the body and any excess is voided in the urine. That means you need vitamin C daily. Roughly 40% of us dont get enough of it. But the good news is that its easy to get adequate vitamin C from an assortment of fruits and vegetables: • 1 medium tomato, 23 mg • 1/2 grapefruit, 44 mg • 1/2 cup cooked broccoli, 58 mg • 1 medium orange, 70 mg • 1 medium kiwifruit, 70 mg • 1 cup of strawberries, 82 mg • 1/2 cup sweet red peppers, 141 mg A glass of lime water would do great to pep up your fat metabolism
