CHURCH FIGHTS GENDER BASED VIOLENCE Maseru, Dec 02(LENA) -- In commemoration of 16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV), the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) in collaboration with Catholic women will hold a March against GBV on Friday. The march will begin at the Moshoeshoe I Statue and end at the Lady of Victories Maseru grounds where the petition will be handed to the Prime Minister, Dr. Motsoahae Thabane, a press release from the commission has said. According to the release the petition aims to sensitise the leaders about the need to account, respond, protect and prevent violence against women and children. The pick of the event will be the holy mass whose aim is to pray for victims of violence as the church is part of the society. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence is an international campaign that starts on November 25 and ends on December 10. The campaign seeks to raise awareness about gender-based violence as a human rights issue at the national, regional and international level. CCJP is a faith based organisation of the Lesotho Catholic Bishops conference whose aim is to promote social justice human rights especially for marginalised groups such as women, children and minority groups.
