The work is routine and is performed in accordance with specific and detailed instructions or follows an established routine. The work may involve some contact with office personnel and the public, and is subject to inspection in progress and upon completion. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Sweeps, mops, scrubs and oils floors; cleans walls and ceilings; dusts furniture and vacuums and cleans carpets and rugs; buffs and cleans tile floors. Washes windows; polishes brass and cleans woodwork, toilets and lavatories; replenishes supplies. Empties wastebaskets, changes light bulbs and runs errands. Moves and sets up furniture; shovels snow and operates snow blowing machine; cleans walks; picks up litter from grounds; cuts grass, trims hedges and uses weed eater equipment. Sets up chairs for special events; does occasional painting and minor repair work. Promotes courtesy and professionalism throughout the City of Huntington. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or GED; experience in mechanized and electrical equipment and painting procedures; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment ordinarily employed in keeping offices and buildings clean. Knowledge of maintenance and repair of electrically-powered vehicles. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to maintain gasoline-powered equipment. Ability to learn repetitive tasks quickly and to work without immediate supervision. Ability to perform groundskeeping duties. Ability to perform moderately heavy manual work. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to pass extensive background check and polygraph examination. Valid driver’s license from state in which employee resides. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Motor vehicle, telephone, vacuum cleaner, buffer and other cleaning equipment, lawn mower, weed eater, hand and power tools and all maintenance equipment.
