CLEAN YOUR COMMUNITY WITH THE R(E)CYCLING DRIVE & TIRE AMNESTY DAY SUFFOLK, VA (October 7, 2013) The Suffolk Clean Community Commission is asking residents to join in their efforts to help make Suffolk a clean, greener place this Fall during the R(E)cycling Drive and Tire Amnesty Day scheduled for Saturday, October 26, 2013, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Bennett’s Creek Park, 3000 Bennetts Creek Park Road. Acceptable Materials for the event include: tires (residential use only, no businesses permitted, acceptable tires must be automobile and light truck weight/size, no tires with rims or tires greater than 22 inches in diameter permitted, heavy equipment or off-the-road tires will not be accepted), electronics (Goodwill will collect gently used clothing, home décor, furniture, computers, laptops, cell phones, and other data storing technology but will not accept TVs with tubes, only flat screens), all types of paper including mixed paper (magazines, catalogs, and newspaper), alkaline batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, and 9V), steel, tin, and aluminum cans, empty food boxes/cardboard boxes (must be flattened), glass containers (bottles and jars), and all plastic bottles (#1 and #2). TFC Recycling will be on hand to responsibly recycle steel and aluminum cans, glass containers, and all plastic bottles. Cintas will provide on-site shredding of sensitive documents. There is a limit of three copy-paper size boxes or three brown-paper bags per person. You must stay with your documents until you’ve handed them to the Cintas driver in the truck. Goodwill’s Reconnect program – a technology recycling partnership with Dell Computers – keeps hazardous e-Waste out of local landfills. To learn more go to goodwillvirginia.org. Each Goodwill donation is eligible for a tax deductible receipt. This event is also sponsored by Suffolk’s National Night Out Committee. National Night Out offers communities an opportunity to clean-up their neighborhoods and say no to crime. Event attendees will receive a free reusable shopping bag.
